International Women’s Day 2020
A brief reflection on International Women’s Day 2020.
Being married to my wife Claire for 51 years this year, I feel qualified to describe how we should all consider how we are equal but different. Men and women are the ying and the yang – each bringing their strengths to the table. The circle of the relationship between couples is only valued when each party is appreciated for their unique contribution.
As a psychologist working with couples, I find that when appreciation is missing in the relationship there is no equality but instead only expectation. This leads to disappointment and resentment, rather than integration and respect.
I congratulate all the women who have worked for less, and have not given up on equality, but have striven for a full voice in society. This completes the circle of humanity, making men and women of equal value.
