Sheila O’Hara
Sheila is a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with post graduate training in child and adolescent psychotherapy. She holds a post graduate certificate in Therapeutic Play (Hons.) and a MSc. (Hons) in Child and adolescent counselling and psychotherapy. Sheila is also qualified to deliver mindfulness training programmes to students in second level schools. She is accredited by Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) and Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP).
Sheila has worked in private practice with adults for 20 years and with children and adolescents in schools for 15 years. During this time, she has been employed by agencies such as School Completion Programme, City of Dublin Education & Training Board and the Department of Education. She has extensive experience working with parents, school Care Teams and liaising with external agencies when required. Her work with minors is in strict compliance with Children First Guidelines.
Sheila works from a humanistic and integrative perspective and believes the therapeutic relationship is central to her work with clients. She has the ability to form positive relationships and communicate effectively with adult and young clients alike. Her work includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic and client-centered modalities. She believes everyone has the capacity to grow, develop and change if they are committed to the counselling process.
