Stuart O’Malley

Stuart is an accredited psychotherapist with the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and holds an honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy with Addiction Studies. He is also a certified group facilitator and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) practitioner. Recognising that we each experience the world uniquely, Stuart integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Choice Theory and SFBT with deeper somatic and unconscious work, listening, supporting and mapping so clients can identify, integrate and grow.
Stuart is passionate about working with people in addiction and recovery, with many years of experience in this field. He recognises trust, compassion and curiosity as foundational to the therapeutic process, and brings that philosophy to the other areas of his focus: anxiety, depression, chronic shame, relationship issues, adverse childhood experiences, low motivation, self-esteem challenges, and parenting.
At the heart of Stuart’s approach is the belief that the goal is not to rid ourselves of all discomfort, since it is a necessary part of being human. Considering this, perhaps the goal is not to become unbothered, but to become grounded enough to think and feel without being ruled by those thoughts and emotions. In creating a genuine connection with our authentic Self, we can learn to understand and regulate our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and bring about lasting,
meaningful change.
