Isobel Carr

Isobel Carr Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist

Isobel is a counsellor and psychotherapist who works with children and adolescents between the ages of 3 and 18 years old. She has extensive experience working with children in her role as a teacher, and in recent years she has specialised in the area of learning support. Isobel holds a B Ed., B.A. and H. Dip. In 2019 she completed an MSc in Child and Adolescent Counselling and Psychotherapeutic skills.

Isobel believes in the importance of person-centred therapy. Developing a warm relationship of trust with the child or adolescent is fundamental to the counselling process. Genuinely respecting and accepting them, helps to put them at ease before dealing with their issues. Whilst this is a confidential process, she recognises the important role of parents, with parent-therapist liaison a key aspect of therapy.

The friendly, fun environment she provides in the playroom is designed to help young children work through their problems and release emotions using toys, games, sand-tray and art media. Play is the natural language of children and through it they often express worries and fears which they may have difficulty verbalising.

Older children and adolescents can also benefit from art and creative therapies to express strong emotions, to relax, to release tension or to develop a sense of self. Some young people are more comfortable talking directly about their problems and this approach is also catered for in our cosy therapy rooms.
