Avril Burgess

Avril is a counsellor and psychotherapist and an educational psychologist. She has worked with the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS). Léargas, the National Centre for Guidance in Education (NCGE), various Education and Training Boards (previously Vocational Education Committees), FÁS and Anco (now Solas) and volunteered with mental health charities and non-profit organisations.
She was a consultant and coordinator of vocational guidance and education programmes in Ireland, in the European Union and in Russia. Before this, she set up and managed training centres for youngsters on probation, early school leavers and unemployed older people. She developed accredited adult psychology and diploma programmes and is skilled in Communications and PR. Avril started off her career teaching at second level in Algeria, North Africa, and in Dublin’s Inner City.
Avril’s therapeutic range covers stress management, anxiety, depression, conflict, social anxiety, loneliness and general withdrawal from life. She participates in ongoing CPD and clinical supervision in counselling and psychology, is trained in suicide prevention, dealing with critical incidents, responding to crisis phone calls, child protection, working online, note taking, GDPR and delivering CBT programmes. Avril is covered by professional indemnity insurance, and complies with data regulations and ethical standards of confidentiality.
Avril helps people to feel more confident in themselves and in their futures, even when they are in very difficult situations. Her counselling sessions provide engaging and safe listening spaces, opportunities to learn coping techniques and often to have a little fun in the process.
