Patrick Boland Counsellor

Patrick has worked as an educator, coach and leadership consultant in organisations including Deloitte, Gonzaga College, Unilever, LEGO, Citibank, and the Centre for Action and Contemplation. As an Executive Coach, Guidance Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Patrick provides career and leadership coaching at the Connolly Centre.


In his approach, Patrick brings the psychological dimensions of Growth Mindset and resilience research into the fields of career and leadership coaching. His person-centred, integrative focus means that his coaching approach facilitates meaningful conversations where clients take the responsibility to create the career and leadership environment they really want to pursue.

Patrick uses a series of psychometric assessments, from the Occupational Interest Profile+ to the Enneagram, the Emotional Capital Report to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. His coaching draws on careers research and life-stage theories ranging from Carl Jung (Morning and Afternoon of Life) to Erik Erikson (Psychosocial Stages), Clare Graves (Spiral Dynamics) to Martin Seligman (Positive Psychology and Life Purpose).

Professional Qualifications & Memberships

Patrick is an Occupational Ability Tester and Occupational Personality Assessor with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). He is a pre-accredited psychotherapist with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), a member of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC) and a member of the Association for Coaching (AC) .

He holds an MSc in Guidance & Counselling from Dublin City University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Trinity College Dublin, a Postgraduate Diploma in Theological Studies from NUI Maynooth, a BComm International from University College Dublin, a Diploma in Executive and Leadership Coaching with the Life and Business Coaching Association of Ireland and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Institute of Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (IICP).

When he’s not working he loves to relax by sailing with friends, flying, snowboarding, reading, and travelling to Italy as often as he can.
