Dr Teyhou Smyth

Dr. Teyhou Smyth, PhD, LMFT/LPCC is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the United States of America and an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Psychology at Pepperdine University, California. Teyhou is also an accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (I.A.C.P.).

Originally from the United Kingdom, Teyhou earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Southern California and completed an M.A. in Sociology at Goldsmiths College, University of London. She went on to complete a second Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at the California School of Professional Psychology and holds a Doctorate Degree in Pedagogical Sciences.

Teyhou enjoys working with a variety of issues including self-esteem /acceptance, anxiety, depression as well as specialising in relationships and couples counselling. However, her area of specialism is working with LGBTQIA+ issues. Teyhou worked as a clinician for several years at LGBTQIA Centres in the USA and provides support from a relational and attachment-based perspective.

Teyhou’s focus is to help individuals find mental wellness through empathetic, therapeutic encounters ensuring unconditional positive regard for the client’s experience. Her multicultural identity and international background has given her exposure to many people from diverse backgrounds which helps her understand issues from a unique perspective, thus wanting to be an important catalyst towards transforming lives.

Teyhou believes that everyone is able to access their full potential so that they may become the best version of themselves.
